2020 Grenache

Known in its original country of Spain as Garnacha, this grape variety has flourished in climates akin to that of its homeland. Particularly, in the warm Mediterranean climate of France’s Southern Rhône Valley and to our benefit, the California coast. Grenache thrives along our coast, well suited for our summer warmth and cool ocean breezes.

 

On the nose we find fruit-forward notes of macerated strawberries and dark cherries with a hint of dried thyme. Just at the end of a whiff is a touch of minerally graphite. On the palate are refreshing notes of strawberries drizzled in balsamic, brushes of crushed graphite, and a dash of white pepper late on the finish. The wine has beautifully fine mid-palate tannins with a delightfully bright acidity that travels effortlessly from the back of the palate to the front. Grilled pork tenderloins, perhaps in kabab form, would be a delicious match to this wine, as well as freshly fired pizza with bacon, or gyros with feta cheese.
