2019 Petite Sirah
The winemaking team at Zaca Mesa had been intrigued by producing a Petite Sirah of our own for many years. We have a natural affinity for a wine of this style since it offers many characteristics that parallel the style of wines that we make at Zaca Mesa. We source the Petite Sirah for this wine from our neighborhood at Alisos Vineyard. Alisos Vineyard is located on Alisos Canyon Road just down the way from Watch Hill Vineyard and is organically farmed. The site is located between Santa Maria Valley and the Santa Ynez Valley and produces vivid, cooler climate grapes. The Petite Sirah produced by the vineyard is small in berry size and produces a dense, concentrated wine due to the wonderfully stressful conditions of growing in low-nutrient soil.

Our 2019 Petite Sirah is luxurious. On the nose are early notes of blackberry and dried black tea leaves. After the wine has had a moment to relax in the glass, a hint of blueberry and a touch of herb arrives. With a sip come notes boysenberry, blackberry fruit leather, and a dash of mocha. Fine tannins travel well from the front of the palate to the mid-palate with a soft, coating
weight. With such silky tannins, expect this wine to age gracefully. Towards the finish is a delightful note of black pepper spice. Don’t be shy with food pairings for this wine! Think about rich, fatty dishes such as beef ribs, hearty winter stews, veggie hash, or maybe a stuffed eggplant.
